The English Modules Consist of:  

Reading

The Maths Modules Consist of: 

Using Numbers

• Core Topics: Master whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and percentages.
• Practical Application: Apply math skills to solve everyday challenges, such as making purchasing decisions, scaling recipes with ratios, and checking household bills.
• Assessment: End-of-section quizzes and a tutor-marked assignment confirm exam readiness.

Understanding Measure, Shape and Space

• Core Topics: Cover measurement essentials including area, distance, time, speed, and temperature.
• Practical Application: Solve time-management problems for work and daily life, read maps, and plan home renovation projects.
• Assessment: Skill-check quizzes and a tutor-marked assignment prepare you for exam questions.

Handling Data

• Core Topics: Learn to summarise, present, and interpret information, as well as calculate probability.
• Critical Analysis: Spot patterns and identify potential bias in data and statistics.
• Assessment: Quizzes and a tutor-marked assignment ensure you are prepared for the final exam.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course. It's open to anyone wanting to achieve Level 2 English and Maths qualifications, whatever your starting point. 

Average Completion Timeframe 

The average time to complete this course is 12 months, although many learners finish sooner by working through the modules at their own pace. 

Assessment Requirements 

For you to sit a remotely invigilated exam, you'll need the following equipment and environment: 

• A laptop or desktop with a webcam and microphone (Chromebooks cannot be used) 
• A stable Wi-Fi connection (minimum 1Mbit/s upload, 10Mbit/s download) 
• A smartphone or tablet (Apple iOS 8.0 or Android 4.1 or higher) for identity verification 
• A quiet, private space to sit your exam without interruption 

Exams Required 

Exams are included in this course and are taken at home using our remote invigilation software. 

Is Membership Required? 

No membership is required to enrol on this course. 

Certification Timeframe 

You can expect to receive your certificate around six weeks after completing your final exam. 

Extension Rules 

You may extend this course once, for a maximum of six months. 

Course Fees 

All course fees, inclusive of all payment plans, must be settled in full before your exams can be booked. You'll have access to your course materials for 12 months. 

Assessment

Throughout the course you'll be assessed by online quizzes and tutor-marked assignments for both Maths and English, building towards a marked mock exam for each subject, one of the benefits of choosing this Functional Skills Maths and English Level 2 package over studying each subject separately elsewhere. 

Once your tutor confirms you're ready, you'll sit your Functional Skills Maths and English Level 2 online exam for each subject, along with a Speaking, Listening and Communication assessment for English, all remotely invigilated and taken from home. 

All course fees, inclusive of all payment plans, must be settled in full before your Functional Skills English and Maths exams can be booked. Once you're ready, contact exams@learndirect.com. Please allow at least four weeks' notice. You can expect your certificate around six weeks after completing your final exam, confirming your two separate Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths.

Functional Skills Level 2 qualifications are also widely used to meet university entry requirements, although not every university accepts them, so it's worth checking with your chosen institution before enrolling.
