How much do Functional Skills cost? It depends on the route you choose, and prices on our site change with offers, so we've left exact figures to the course pages where they're always up to date. This page explains what affects the price, how to spread the cost, and if you might be able to get your course funded.
What affects Functional Skills cost?
The biggest factors are the route you choose, a course or just the exam, and if your exam is included.
- Course or exam only. A course teaches you everything. An exam-only option is for people who've already studied.
- Exam included or not. A course with your exam included covers everything in one price. A course on its own costs less upfront, and you add your exam later.
The number of subjects matters too, because English and Maths each have their own qualification, and our combined courses cover both.

How much is a Functional Skills exam with us? The price is on each exam page, and it covers more than the sitting itself. Our
English Exam and
Maths Exam include the awarding organisation's registration fees, certification fees, one online exam and access to an exam preparation course. Either one can be taken at Level 1 or Level 2.
Functional Skills exam cost: what's included
The Functional Skills exam cost on our pages isn't just the exam. You get your online exam taken from home, your registration and your certification fees. That means no separate bill for your certificate.

Functional Skills Level 2 cost: with or without exams
The Functional Skills Level 2 cost depends on whether the exam is bundled in. These are the options:
Can you spread the cost?
Yes, and Functional Skills cost doesn't have to be paid all at once. You can pay in full, or spread your course fees over instalments with no interest. The length varies by course, up to 12 months. You'll find the details on our
payment options page, and each course page shows its monthly price.
Is there funded Functional Skills Level 2?
Funded Functional Skills Level 2 exists, but it works differently from our courses. According to
GOV.UK, adults aged 19 or over who don't have a GCSE grade 4 or above in English or maths can be fully funded to study English and maths qualifications up to Level 2. That funding goes through eligible providers, and eligibility rules apply.
The courses on our site are paid courses, and you can spread the cost. If you think you might qualify for funding, ask your local college or contact the
National Careers Service about what's available near you. If you'd rather study online and fit it around your life, we're here to help.
Questions to ask before you buy
- Is the exam included, or will you pay for it separately?
- How long do you have to finish?
- What tutor support comes with the course?
- Can you spread the cost, and over how many months?
- What happens if you need to resit?
