To help you make the most out of this course, you will also have 3 mock exam papers that your tutor will check and offer feedback on, in order to prepare you for your Functional Skills Level 2 online exams.

Modules

Functional Skills Level 2 English consists of the following units:

• Reading – This Functional Skills Level 2 English module looks at reading for information, including looking at biased pieces of work and will help you to work out how much the opinions of certain authors can be trusted. It also looks at the different types of layout features and how these can impact the reader. All of the reading skills that you will look at will be tested in quizzes at the end of each section, followed by a tutor-marked assignment.
• Writing – This Functional Skills Level 2 English module looks at the best way to write certain pieces. This may include letters, newspaper articles, emails and blogs amongst others. This area will also test your spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.  At the end of your learning are quizzes and tutor-marked assignments.
• Speaking, Listening and Communication – The speaking, listening and communication (SLC) element of English functional skills is one of the most useful and fun areas to strengthen. This Functional Skills Level 2 English module helps you prepare for the SLC assessment by showing you examples of the best ways to tackle everyday situations at home and in the workplace. These will help build your confidence and effectiveness in these scenarios. This section is finalised with our quizzes and a tutor-marked assignment.

Once you’ve passed all tutor-marked assignments you will be ready to take your mock exam.  The mock exam is marked by your tutor and feedback and any recommended revision areas are given.

Functional Skills Level 2 Maths is taught using the following units:

• Using Numbers – This section of the Functional Skills Level 2 Maths covers everything from whole numbers to decimals, fractions and percentages. You’ll look at how to solve real problems using these skills, including making decisions about purchases, using ratios in recipes at work or working out whether your bills are correct. All of the number skills you look at will be tested by quizzes at the end of each section, and a tutor-marked assignment.
• Understanding Measure, Shape and Space – This element of the Functional Skills Level 2 Maths course contains a wide range of topics from area and distance to time, speed and temperature. You’ll look at how to solve problems involving time to plan your day-to-day or work life, and how to use your understanding of shape and area to do anything from read a map to plan a house renovation. Our quizzes will check that you’re able to use these skills in different situations while the tutor-marked assignment will identify any revision areas needed.
• Handling Data – This section looks at working with information. You’ll look at how to summarise and present information that you’ve found, and how to understand information that other people are sharing with you in this part of the Functional Skills Level 2 Maths course. You’ll also look at probability and how likely certain things are to happen. As well as learn how to spot patterns and see how even data and statistics can be biased. Quizzes and a tutor-marked assignment ensures you’ve learnt.

Once you’ve passed all tutor-marked assignments you will be ready to take your mock exam. The mock exam is marked by your tutor and feedback and any recommended revision areas are given.

The average time it takes to complete the course is 12 months.

Assessment requirements

The assessment consists of online written exams, as well as an assessment of speaking, listening and communication.

Is Membership Required?

No membership is required to enrol on this course.

Extension Rules

£40 for six months, maximum of twice. If expired more than three months ago, have already had two extensions, or the course has been updated, then they need to restart the course and pay again.

Course Fees

All course fees, inclusive of all payment plans including our Premium Credit Limited option, must be settled before certification can be ordered.

During your Functional Skills Level 2 combined course you will be assessed throughout your learning by our online quizzes. If you achieve 80% or more in our quizzes, you’re ready to take your assignment.  Once all your assignments are passed, you’ll be ready for the mock exam. One marked mock exam for each exam is included in this Functional Skills Level 2 combined course package. If you already know you want to purchase our remotely invigilated exam, please have a look at one of our value packages that include learning materials, tutor support and an exam for one great price.

Once you’ve completed this course, you’ll have worked on all the skills you need for a Level 2 Functional Skills English and/or maths exam. If you decide to sit an exam, you’ll need to arrange this with us and buy this separately at a later date if you don't want to buy it now. After sitting and passing an exam, you’ll have gained a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification in English and/or maths. This is equivalent to a grade C or above (4) at GCSE. It will enable you to go on to further education programmes and can also give you access to some universities. If you are looking to progress and are missing that C grade then this is the programme for you.

Functional Skills courses were devised by the UK Government to help improve the literary, numeracy and Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills of people in the UK. As a direct equivalent to GCSE grade C/4, completing Functional Skills Level 2 courses can help you meet job and university entry requirements that require a passing grade in these subjects.

Recognised unanimously as core subjects, an understanding of English and Maths is regarded as essential for the comprehension of all other academic forms of study. Not only that but both numeracy and literary skills are required for the successful navigation of day-to-day life.

As such, this Functional Skills Maths and English Level 2 combined course will help you develop skills and knowledge to overcome everyday challenges.

In grasping mathematical concepts, you will be able to take complex processes and make them more manageable by applying structure, patterns and rules.
