Overview
This Ofqual accredited level 3 qualification is equivalent to A Level study and consists of 6 units. This is an essential course for those seeking employment in a pet shop. By law, all pet stores are required to have an employee who holds this qualification. So it’s highly sought after in potential applicants.
The qualification covers a wide range of responsibilities all pet shops must adhere to. Including information on how to provide a safe, clean and enriching environment for all pets to live happily and healthily. As well as proper grooming, nutrition and care legislation.
You’ll learn how to advise customers on a range of small animals from reptiles to rodents and aquatic species to birds. Giving you a comprehensive understanding of the correct methods to provide quality care for each species.
Pet ownership has definitive benefits for both the pet and its owner. Improving people’s well-being by reducing stress and giving opportunities for physical activity. Owners then need to be educated well enough to provide consistent access to food, companionship and a safe home for their pets. That way both parties can experience the positive advantages mutually.
An informed employee will lead to well-educated customers and properly looked after pets with a better quality of life.
This qualification has been developed for those working in the pet care industry, or those wanting to pursue a career in this area. This qualification meets the requirements for higher standard licensing under the DEFRA Animal Activities Licensing Requirements and covers not only the care of animals within a pet shop but the retail and customer care aspect too.
