On completion of this unit you will:

  • Know the essential laws required to ensure well-being for all animals
  • Understand the well-being laws essential for the care of canines and felines
  • Understand the range of duties and abilities required for the well-being of animal representatives and examiners
  • Be able to identify appropriate living environment management for canines and felines

Unit 2: Managing Canine and Feline Environments

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the responsibilities and duties required of employees in catteries and kennels
  • Understand how to control and organise a kennel or cattery
  • Be able to highlight sections for development in catteries or kennels

Unit 3: Canine Care in Kennel Settings

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand common kennel illnesses and prevention techniques
  • Understand the well-being requirements when feeding canines within a kennel environment
  • Understand the correct personal protective equipment when controlling canines in a kennel setting
  • Understand the significance of natural development within a canine care environment
  • Be able to appropriately control canines within a kennel setting

Unit 4: Canine Behaviour and Mannerisms

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand different gestures displayed within a canine
  • Be able to identify familiar behaviour constraints within a canine
  • Be able to identify familiar symptoms of tension and hostility in canines

Unit 5: Canine Transportation

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Be able to identify the crucial personal protective equipment required when working with canines
  • Be able to identify the essentials of cautious supervision when freely walking a canine
  • Be able to appropriately seize canines who are stray
  • Understand compassionate ways to manage canines
  • Understand techniques and methods to support canines when transporting them

Unit 6: Feline Care in Cattery Settings

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the sources of illnesses within felines
  • Understand the well-being of felines within a cattery environment
  • Know how to deliver engaging activities in a cattery for felines
  • Understand how to appropriately administer medicine to a feline

Unit 7: Feline Behaviour and Mannerisms

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the behaviour of a feline
  • Be able to learn a theory which is applied in training felines
  • Understand the biological elements which influence the behaviour of a feline
  • Understand the effect of the connection between a feline and a human on the behaviour of a cat

Unit 8: Feline Transportation

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the importance of applying personal protective equipment when transporting felines
  • Understand the essentials of manoeuvring felines safely
  • Be able to effectively and carefully transfer a feline
  • Understand how to decrease feline tension when transferring

Entry Requirements

Learners must be at least 18 years of age to enrol and are expected to have a working knowledge of at least Level 2 with good working levels of English and Maths.

Certification Timeframe

On completion of their studies, learners can expect their certification within 6 months following the (EQA) External Quality Assurance of assessment.
