This Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming will give you the necessary knowledge and skills to become a qualified dog groomer or open your own dog grooming business.
This comprehensive Ofqual regulated qualification covers everything from canine grooming techniques, animal care and first aid through to how to manage your customers. During your study you will learn all about how to assess, plan, bathe and style different breeds of dog and different coat types.
This qualification includes 25 days of practical training at top-of-the-range dog grooming salons and training academys in either Bedford or Moreton (UK).
During your practical training, you will work alongside trained and highly experienced dog grooming professionals. This valuable, hands-on experience will allow you to enhance your skill set and develop your grooming and styling techniques by practicing on clients (dogs) in a safe dog grooming salon.
Your practical training days will include:
- Learning how to prepare for and carry out styling and finishing techniques for different breeds/coats/types of dogs
- Learning how to maintain and use relevant equipment
- Learning how to safely bathe and dry a range of dogs
By the end of your studies, you will be able to work safely with animals and know how to promote and maintain their health and welfare. You will understand the requirements of first aid and how to carry out a health check on a dog.
You will also learn about how to welcome and care for customers along with being able to deal with any customer complaints, should they arise.

- Understand the examination of an injured animal
- Understand the ABC of Canine First Aid and actions to take following the ABC assessment
- Be able to put a dog in the recovery position and conduct dog resuscitation (CPR)
- Be able to dress and treat wounds
- Understand choking, stings and poisoning and be able to give the necessary treatment
- Understand the signs and treatment of hyperthermia, and a dog who has drowned
- Understand the signs and treatment of a dog having a convulsion
- Understand different types of burns
- Understand what is required in a pet first aid kit and how to communicate in emergency situations
Unit 3: Carry Out Styling and Finishing of a Dog
On completion of this unit you will:
- Be able to use appropriate techniques to handle and restrain a range of dogs with different temperaments
- Be able to record grooming style
- Be able to prepare for styling and finishing techniques for different breeds/coats/types of dogs
- Be able to carry out styling and finishing techniques for different breeds/coat types of dogs

Unit 4: Health Checking a Dog by a Dog Groomer
On completion of this unit you will:

Certification Timeframe
Learners can expect their certification within 6 months of completing the course, following the (EQA) External Quality Assurance of assessment.
