About your Course

Learners all over the world can gain a recognised and accepted GCSE alternative by completing The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

Since mathematics qualifications are held in such high regard with employers and educators, an iGCSE Maths course enables you to progress to further study or launch a new career.

By studying key mathematical principles like algebra, geometry, probability and statistics, you’ll develop problem-solving skills and other demonstratable knowledge by the time you complete the course.

The modules included in the course are designed to help you build confidence in your mathematical abilities. Enabling you to develop a fluency with concepts, methods and skills, as well as familiarity with numbers, patterns and relationships and the ability to interpret results.

You will also be able to effectively reason and communicate by using mathematical concepts.

This course does not includes your exams, but you can add the exam later. iGCSE maths exams are available in November and May – June each year, providing more flexibility for mature students.

Although the course content varies slightly from a standard GCSE, you will still gain the same learning outcomes and you will gain an iGCSE qualification in Maths.

As an online course, you can learn whenever suits you best, giving you the freedom to carry on working and earning while you gain new skills. This flexibility also enables you to complete the course as quickly as you like.

Modules

IGCSE mathematics covers the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics B (9-1) specification and includes sections on:

Number

This unit covers using numbers to solve a variety of different problems. You’ll use fractions, decimals and percentages, and work with ratios and proportion.

Algebra

In this unit, you’ll learn how to use algebra and formulae in different ways, including problem-solving and working with graphs. Once you’re comfortable with these skills, you’ll learn how to work with quadratic equations. 

Geometry

Here, you’ll look at 2D and 3D shapes, including circles, triangles and trapeziums. The unit includes using vectors to describe directions and movement, and using rules and formulae to find angles in shapes.

Measures

This unit looks at different ways of measuring, including the use of scales to draw plans or to read maps. You’ll look at how to work with speed and density in a variety of contexts and learn how these apply to real life situations.

Statistics

In this unit, you’ll learn how to interpret, analyse and compare different sets of data, and how to present your own data to share with others. You’ll look at how trends can be predicted and how to ensure that the interpretation of data is trustworthy.

Probability

This unit looks at using probability to describe the chance of events happening. You’ll learn how to use the language of probability to explain likelihood, and how to use diagrams, tables and techniques to explore the idea of chance in different situations.

Average completion timeframe

The average time it takes to complete the course is 18 months.

Is Membership Required?

No membership is required to enrol on this course.

Extension Rules

£40 for six months, maximum of twice. If expired more than six months ago, or have already had two extensions, then they need to restart the course and pay again.

Course Fees

All course fees, inclusive of all payment plans including our Premium Credit Limited option, must be settled before certification can be ordered.

*You will have access to the course for 24 months.

You’ll be assessed throughout your learning by our online quizzes, and by your tutor with the assignments you submit at the end of each unit.

We will provide you with mock iGCSE exams, which we’ll mark and provide you with feedback on, highlighting the areas where you need to focus your revision before your iGCSE exam, should you decide to take it.

At the end of this course, if you decide to take the iGCSE exam, after passing you’ll have gained an iGCSE in Mathematics, which can enable you to go on to further and higher education programmes like A Level study, and can also give you access to universities. With this qualification you can achieve from grade 9 to grade 1.
