About your course

This iPet Network Level 3 Certificate in Dog Grooming and Introduction to Styling will start your journey towards a dog grooming career.

You will learn key health safety, animal handling and health and welfare best practices. You’ll also study key legislation around canines and animal welfare. This will help you to promote a relaxing environment for the animals in your care.

This course will also should you how to safely groom, studying coat conditions, equipment maintenance and how to plan treatments. You will also learn how to prep, style and finish, including how to correctly bathe and groom a number of different breeds. And how to safely remove knots and tangles.

This course includes 15 days of practical training. You will work alongside professionals at a dog grooming school, gaining valuable practical experience. As part of the practical you will groom at least 10 dogs - with a minimum of 5 different breeds, covering 4 coats types.

It will give you the opportunity to put what you’ve learned into practice. And gain hands-on experience with a variety of different dog breeds with differing coat lengths.

During your 15-days of practical, you will work alongside trained and highly experienced dog grooming professionals.

This unique learning experience will allow you to work on your dog grooming and health and safety procedures. You will also be able to practice the grooming and styling techniques on several clients (dogs) with a range of coats styles and lengths.

Throughout your training, you will be monitored, supported, and assessed by experienced dog grooming tutors.

At the end of your practical training, you will be equipped with the confidence and the experience to apply for roles in the dog grooming sector.

 

 

Modules

This course consists of 5 units. 

Unit 1: Health and Safety in a Dog Grooming Environment

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Learn how to promote and maintain the health and welfare of canines
  • Study the health, safety and welfare requirements in a salon environment

Unit 2: Promote the Welfare of Dogs conforming with Relevant Legislation

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Learn about the relevant canine legislations
  • Understand how to provide care and minimise stress for dogs

Unit 3: Assess and Plan Dog Grooming Styles and Maintenance of Equipment

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Study the styling requirements and appearance of a dog
  • Understand how to plan the work according to the breed requirements
  • Learn about coat conditions and the appearance for a range of dog breeds
  • Learn the importance of grooming equipment maintenance

Unit 4: Health Checking, Handling and Canine Behaviour

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Learn how to carry out health checks and study the structure of a dog
  • Understand the basics of canine behaviour and handling
  • Learn how to identify and report on the dogs’ health
  • Identify poor canine health and learn how it can affect the grooming process
  • Identify possible breed defects and the safe adjustments that can be made

Unit 5: Prepare, Style and Finish a range of Dog Breeds

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Study the techniques to handle and restrain different types of dogs
  • Discover how to safely remove knots from coats before bathing
  • Learn how to safely bathe and dry a range of dogs
  • Learn how to effectively groom a variety of dog breeds, from preparation to styling and finishing
  • Learn how to groom at least 20 dogs across the 6 different coat types

Requirements

This course is open for all to study, providing that students are at least 16 years of age. No prior experience or qualifications are required. 

The qualification includes 15 days of practical training where you will receive hands-on experience and the opportunity to apply your learning. As part of the practical you will groom at least 10 dogs - with a minimum of 5 different breeds, covering 4 coats types. This practical will be at a state of the art dog grooming centre in Chesire.

The approximate time required to complete the course is 238 hours, including the practical training at a dog grooming school.

Assessment

When studying your iPET Network Level 3 Certificate in Dog Grooming and Introduction to Styling you will be assessed through a variety of tasks. Each unit will encompass quizzes, essays, activities and research, along with other assessment methods. These are designed to ensure you understand the learning outcomes of each unit.

There are also 15 days of practical training included in this course where students will benefit from hands-on training.
