Overview

  • Gain a deeper understanding of key scientific principles.
  • Study everything from Particle Physics to Astrophysics.
  • Find out the way the universe works.
  • Complete this A Level in as little as 6 months.
  • Allows you to progress to university level study.
  • Study around your existing commitments.

Studying your A Level

Physics at A Level gives you the opportunity to study the phenomena of the universe and the theories which underpin it.

During your course you will study the various facets of Physics including Particles and Radiation, Nuclear Physics, Astrophysics and Mechanics.

As you explore each of these subjects you will cover a range of topics including supernovas and blackholes, molecular kinetic theory, quarks and antiquarks.

You will gain a superior understanding of the key principles which will allow you to develop hypotheses of your own in preparation for your further study.

Upon completion of the course you will have the knowledge required to take your study of Physics to degree level and beyond.

Getting Started

learndirect is one of the UKs leading providers of distance learning courses. Which makes us experts at providing you with a comprehensive A Level Physics course.

This allows you to build your learning around your work, family and other commitments. There are no classrooms, no evening classes and no timetables.

Because your course is entirely online you can study at a pace that suits you. Which means you can complete the course as quickly (or as slowly) as you like. The only specific deadline to work towards is your exam – exam sittings are held once per year in May or June.

Our online student portal has all the learning materials you need to complete your course. As soon as you’ve enrolled it’ll be ready and waiting for you to begin.

You will also get the support of a dedicated and qualified tutor throughout the course. They will provide guidance and feedback on your assignments as well as be on hand for any advice.

Ultimately this allows you to study and complete your A Level in Physics in a manner that reflects your lifestyle, commitments and your approach to learning.

Pursuing your career

An A Level in Physics can allow you to go on to study Physics at university. However, your desired university will have entry requirements so be sure to check the grade required in this and associated subjects.

Modules

During your studies you will cover the following modules:

  • Introduction to Physics
  • Measurements and their errors
  • Particles and radiation
  • Waves
  • Mechanics and materials
  • Electricity
  • Further mechanics and thermal physics
  • Fields and their consequences
  • Nuclear physics
  • Astrophysics
  • Medical physics
  • Engineering physics
  • Turning points in physics
  • Electronics

Requirements

Great news! There are no entry requirements for the course. However, GCSE grade C or above in Physics, Maths and English Language would be an advantage. You will need access to a computer or tablet and an internet connection.

Assessment

At the end of each unit you will find a Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA). This is completed online and submitted to your tutor. Once assessed your tutor will return your work complete with its final grade and feedback. Once you’ve successfully passed each assignment you’ll be ready to take your exam!

Qualifications

If you decide to take the A Level exam at the end of this course and pass, you will have gained an A Level in Physics. This will enable you to progress to further and higher education programmes.
