These include: Gum recession and gum disease – Exposing more of the tooth to bacteria, Dry mouth – Less saliva leads to demineralisation as acids are less likely to be neutralised, History of tooth decay – Patients with one or more cavities a year, Frequent snackers – Those at more risk of decay because they regularly eat sugary foods between mealtimes, Deep fissures – Deep grooves and pits in teeth tend to lead to decay as food is more likely to become trapped
