6th October 23

Deciding on the right career path can be challenging. If you want to make a positive impact, dental nursing is a great choice. Dental nursing is a secure career where your skills will be in demand almost immediately. As an extra bonus, because you need to work in a dental practice for at least 16 hours a week when you enrol on the course you need to take to qualify, you will earn as you learn.

We understand some students are nervous about being able to find a job, but learndirect makes the process simple with lots of support and guidance.

How learndirect Supports Your Transition into Dental Nursing

When you enrol on your NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice of Dental Nursing with learndirect, you’ll benefit from support from our dedicated team.

To complete the practical elements of the qualification, you’ll need access to a dental practice where you can gain hands-on experience alongside your studies. If you’re not currently working within a dental practice, you can still enrol and begin studying online while searching for a suitable placement opportunity. We can also support you with finding a placement, helping you take the next step towards gaining the practical experience required for the course.

Throughout the course, you'll study a range of essential topics including:

  • Infection prevention and control
  • Oral and dental anatomy
  • Patient care
  • Dental radiography
  • Chair-side support
  • Professional practice within the dental environment

You’ll also build an understanding of communication, teamwork and ethical responsibilities, helping you prepare for the realities of working closely with both patients and dental professionals.

Designed with flexibility in mind, the course can fit around existing commitments, making it ideal for those looking to retrain, change careers or enter the dental industry for the first time. Once completed, you’ll achieve a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification and be eligible to apply for registration to the General Dental Council (GDC), allowing you to work as a qualified dental nurse and progress into further opportunities within the dental sector.
