Discovering the world of plants with a horticulture course

29th March 26

Many people find peace and satisfaction in their gardens without fully realising the scientific depth behind the soil and stems. If you have ever wondered why certain plants thrive while others wither, you are likely ready to dive deeper into the field of horticulture. This area of study is more than just a hobby. It is a vital blend of art and science that shapes the natural world around us.

Defining the field and the expert

To begin your journey, it’s helpful to understand the terminology. Let’s break it down.

What does horticulture mean exactly?

The word horticulture essentially refers to the culture of plants for food, comfort, or beauty. While it shares some similarities with farming, there is a clear difference between horticulture and agriculture that is worth noting. Agriculture typically focuses on large-scale crop production and livestock for global food systems. In contrast, horticulture usually deals with smaller-scale, intensive plant cultivation and the management of gardens or landscapes.

What is a Horticulturist in this context?

Horticulturists are the experts who apply scientific knowledge to grow plants efficiently and sustainably.

What does a Horticulturist do?

The answer covers a wide range of tasks. Horticulturists might develop new plant varieties, design beautiful public parks, or manage the health of a local ecosystem. Horticulture is the study of plants in a way that allows us to improve their growth and resilience in various environments.

Quite an experience

It was challenging the experience, but I still enjoyed the learning that I got from the I-to-I company. And the content I learned was amazing and I didn't feel rushed. I had to pay a few times for expansions due to how long I had to wait for feedback, but that is the only thing that bothered me. But the rest was an amazing experience.
