This OCN Level 3 Award in Wildlife Photography has been specifically designed to give you the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to be able to work in wildlife photography.

This two-unit qualification will introduce you to digital photography and how to capture compelling wildlife photos. The qualification will guide you through wildlife photographic techniques and how to make your shots the best they can be through the process of photo editing and postproduction.

The qualification explores the best techniques for capturing photos of different species and introduces the concept of storytelling in wildlife photography.  At the end of your studies, you will be able to produce a wildlife photography portfolio.

Unit 1: Digital Photography
On completing this first unit, students will be able to:

  • Know the components of a digital camera
  • Understand how the basic controls and parameters work
  • Be able to apply photographic techniques
  • Understand image composition
  • Understand camera usage in animal photography


Unit 2: Wildlife Photography
On completing this second unit, students will be able to:

  • Be familiar with the best techniques for photographing different species
  • Know how to apply the best techniques for landscape and ecosystem photography
  • Understand the concept of storytelling in wildlife photography
  • Understand the basics of photo editing and postproduction
  • Be familiar with ethics when working with animals
  • Be able to produce a wildlife photography portfolio

There are other no formal entry requirements for this qualification, but learners must be aged 16 and over. The study will be delivered online, and it is available to start at any time. Enrolment remains valid for 2 years and students can complete the qualification at their own pace.

To successfully gain the Level 3 Award in Wildlife Photography, students must achieve 5 credits.
You will be assessed through internal assessments conducted online at the end of each unit and assessed by one of our qualified animal tutors.
 
When are you assessed?
As you’re in control of how you learn, you’re also in charge of when you hand in your assignments.

This enables you to take as long as you need to thoroughly understand the unit before completing any assignments.
