About your Course 

This Level 3 Award in Wildlife Photography has been specifically designed to give you the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to be able to work in wildlife photography.

This two-unit qualification will introduce you to digital photography and how to capture compelling wildlife photos. The qualification will guide you through wildlife photographic techniques and how to make your shots the best they can be through the process of photo editing and postproduction.

The qualification explores the best techniques for capturing photos of different species and introduces the concept of storytelling in wildlife photography.  At the end of your studies, you will be able to produce a wildlife photography portfolio.

All the material is readily available once you enrol, so you’re able to start right away!

As part of your course, you will benefit from two days of practical training at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park in Suffolk, giving you much-needed hands-on experience. During your training, you will have an opportunity to photograph a range of wildlife, from reptiles, mammals, and fish to birds, butterflies, and rare breeds.

To enhance and develop your skillset, you will be taught an array of techniques from an experienced wildlife photography expert in small groups. These skills include:

  • Composition
  • Colour balance
  • Camera settings
  • How to get confident in moving away from automatic settings

You will also learn how to work within different environmental perspectives, for example, from ground level, higher dimensions, the rule of thirds, and macro photography. All of the skills and techniques learned will enable you to creatively tell a story through your photography.

Learners must upload their photography portfolio in order to be assessed.

Placement or Practical required

This course includes a mandatory 2 day practical placement with Jimmy's Farm. Please note, minimum group sizes apply.

Learners can complete the practical training at any point, once full payment for the course has been made and the group size is met. Minimum of 5 learners per group.

Certification Timeframe

Learners can expect their certification within 6 months of completing the course, following the (EQA) External Quality Assurance of assessment.

Course Fees

You will be assessed through internal assessments conducted online at the end of each unit and assessed by one of our qualified animal tutors.
