Dementia effects more than 850,000 people in the UK with that number expected to rise to one million by 2025. With an ageing population, experts predict the number will reach two million by 2050.
This is in part due to odds of developing dementia jumping from 1/14 for over 65s to 1/6 for over 80s. As a result, dementia is the only condition in the top 10 causes of death without a treatment to prevent or cure its progression.
This course will teach you about the different types of dementia and the importance of early diagnosis. You will learn about the impact of dementia and person-centred approaches in dementia care.
You will also understand the vital the role of communication, interaction and inclusion plays in the support and care of individuals with the condition.
To be awarded the Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care, learners are required to successfully complete 7 mandatory units:
- Unit 01 - Understanding dementia
- Unit 02 - Understand how person-centred approaches are used to underpin the care and support of individuals with dementia
