This Level 6 certificate assesses the professional knowledge and insight you need to evaluate, adapt, create, and reflect on the use of context-specific teaching resources, all of which support your Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

The course is designed around pedagogical outcomes rather than specific English language competency and requires the completion of four teaching activities. These activities require you to use resource evaluation, creation, and application to develop your knowledge and practice.

With direct reference to your teaching context, successful completion of this course will enable you to evaluate, adapt, and create teaching or training resources to meet the needs of a specified learner or learner group. You will also be able to justify and reflect on pedagogical decisions made to meet the needs of learners, demonstrate an awareness of their formative assessment, and use academic referencing to meet the needs of intended learning outcomes.

Additional Information

This Certificate for Practising Teachers (CertPT) is an in-service vocational teaching qualification listed at Level 6 on Ofqual’s Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), equivalent to a Master’s level qualification.

The Level 6 Trinity Certificate for Practising Teachers (CertPT) is all online learning, which means you don’t have to wait for a new term to start, as you would do with an in-person class, and you can fit your learning around your existing schedule. All you have to do is enrol and you can start studying whenever you’re ready, at a pace that suits you, via our online student portal.

• Demonstrate understanding of how to adapt a resource to a specific learner or group of learners

Unit 3: Create a resource

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

• Be able to consider the factors involved in creating resources
• Understand how to match resources with lesson aims and stages
• Be able to give and receive feedback on materials

Unit 4: Reflect on the use of a resource

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

• Be able to identify strengths and weaknesses of your own materials, with direct reference to the specified learner/learner group
• Be able to suggest solutions for identified weaknesses and, where appropriate, for improving the strengths
• Be able to include evidence of learner, peer and/or manager feedback on the use of the materials

Entry Requirements

The Trinity College London Certificate for Practising Teachers (CertPT) with a specialism in Online Teaching has been created for online educators who are already in service.

Participants should have:

• An initial teacher education qualification, such as the Trinity CertTESOL or any of the Level 5 TEFL qualifications, plus a minimum of six months of teaching experience

Or:

• Substantive teaching experience (at least two years) that allows a candidate to complete the assessment tasks to the level required

Experienced Online Teachers

If you have been teaching online and wish to enhance your pedagogical skills, explore new resources, and refine your approach to online education, this CertPT course is a fitting choice. It aims to deepen your understanding of utilising online resources and materials effectively and advance your teaching practices.

Early Career Online Teachers

For those in the early stages of their online teaching career, this course provides a robust foundation for selecting, adapting, and creating online teaching resources. It offers a structured pathway to build on your existing knowledge, learn from experienced peers, and gain practical insights into improving your online teaching practice.

Transitioning Teachers

Suppose you are transitioning from a traditional classroom setting to online teaching. In that case, this course offers a supportive environment to learn the ropes of online resource management, understand the dynamics of online education, and develop skills essential for a successful online teaching career.

The course will be conducted entirely in English. Participants' English level should be at least at B2 on the Common European Framework.

Minimum Age Restriction

16+ but to work in TEFL you generally need to be 18+.

Average Completion Timeframe

The Trinity CertPT is a quick-to-complete course, with just 30 Guided Learning Hours, but you have 24 months to complete the course should you need it.

Assessment Requirements

You will complete a task at the end of each unit to assess your knowledge.

Certification Timeframe

Learners can expect their certification within 6 months of completing the course, following the (EQA) External Quality Assurance of assessment.

Course Fees

All course fees, inclusive of all payment plans including our Premium Credit Limited option, must be settled before certification can be ordered.

This means that it is accepted by education authorities, immigration and visa departments all around the world and is a benchmark qualification within the industry.

It is also accredited by Trinity College London which is a leading international exam board that operates in over 60 countries. 

After completing the CertPT you will become more proficient at planning and delivering lessons, and you will become an expert in your chosen specialism. A higher qualification often translates to better salary prospects so, with the CertPT under your belt, you can negotiate for a more competitive salary or seek higher-paying positions.

The Level 6 Trinity Certificate for Practising Teachers (CertPT) is listed on the Ofqual Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) at Level 6, the same level as a Master’s. For this reason, many institutions recognise the qualification as being appropriate for credit transfer at Level 6 or other levels, depending on local requirements.

The CertPT also designed as a standalone continuing professional development qualification that can be taken independently of other teacher education qualifications. However, it’s also part of Trinity’s TESOL qualification suite, so it’s an ideal progression step from the Level 5 CertTESOL and great preparation for the Level 7 DipTESOL.
