Electricity - Fundamentals

Overview

The main concern in this course is in the electrical forces which, when applied to an electric circuit, cause a flow of current. In addition we shall study what these electric currents do, how they flow and what effects they produce.

The more common electrical apparatus will be discussed, and in doing so, the chemical, heating and magnetic effects of current will be introduced. The objective therefore of this course is to give a better understanding in the many aspects of electricity.

Modules

Simple arithmetic, electric current

Conductors and insulators

Resistance, electromotive force

Electric circuits, Ohm's law

Work, energy, power, heat and resistive circuits

Batteries, electronic theory, electron flow and resistance

Electric potential and electromotive force

Conductors and insulators

Resistance

Capacitance and inductance

Magnetism, electromagnetism

Generators, motors

What is NCFE

NCFE is the UK's longest established awarding body, recognised as a highly professional and responsive organisation, committed to maintaining excellent customer service and a friendly approach.

NCFE is recognised as an awarding body by the qualification regulators ('regulators') for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The regulators are the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.

Accreditation by NCFE is a guarantee of quality. It means that the college has been inspected and approved by an independent and experienced education professional and is quality audited biannually by NCFE.
