Contemporary Social Policy

About the Level 3 Contemporary Social Policy Certificate

This distance learning course has been designed to educate individuals about social policy in modern society. As they progress through the course, students will gain an awareness of the effects social policy has on our private and working lives. In particular, students will examine how policy affects health, community care and housing.

The course is spread out over eight engaging modules, covering topics from the private to the voluntary sector. Learners will also examine the mixed economy of welfare and discover the inequalities that exist in health and social care policy. The course will also introduce the major debates in the social policy sector.

Who should study this course?

This home learning course has been designed for those with an interest in contemporary social policy. Whether you want to secure a job as a policy writer, or you simply want to broaden your understanding of the topic, this online qualification will help you on your way.

As with all of our courses here at learndirect, you do not need any prior qualifications or experience to enrol. You don’t even need any previous knowledge of social policy. All we ask is that you have the motivation to engage in home study and access to the internet.

What happens after the course?

By the end of your Level 3 Contemporary Social Policy qualification you will have a fundamental understanding of how social policy works. Whether you use this knowledge to pursue further education, develop your current career or find a new job, is up to you.

A knowledge of social policy can be useful in many career sectors. Senior positions in this field will usually require a degree or an alternative higher education qualification. However there are some positions that do not. Jobs in this field include but are not limited to:

  • Policy writer
  • Charity officer
  • Local government officer
