About the Gentle Touch Aromatherapy Certificate
Out of all of the complementary therapies, aromatherapy is one of the most commonly practised and widely appreciated. This is likely because of its therapeutic and cosmetic benefits and its positive effects on psychological wellbeing. This course aims to provide students with an introduction to aromatherapy and give them the skills to practise it independently.
In order to complete the qualification, students will need to work through 10 engaging distance learning modules. These units cover everything from the history of aromatherapy and the human body, to essential oils and how they work. The course also teaches students how to use aromatherapy in the home and garden, and how to use it to combat stress.
Who should study this course?
This online distance learning qualification is a great starting point for budding aromatherapists. However, it is also suitable for individuals with a general interest in aromatherapy or those who work in beauty therapy and want to expand on their knowledge.
Learners do not require any prior qualifications before they enrol on this home study programme. All we ask is that students are interested in learning about aromatherapy and that they have the motivation to succeed via distance learning.
What happens after the course?
Once students have completed this aromatherapy course, they will have a fundamental understanding of aromatherapy and how it works. This knowledge will allow students to begin practising as aromatherapists and developing a client base.

A detailed profile of the use of aromatics and essential oils from the first recorded notation to present day usage.
- Health & Safety
Extensive details of the safe usage of essential oils for both the recipient and the practitioner, contra indications for massage and aspects of oils.
Assignment 2
- Brief Overview of the Systems of the Body
In this assignment we briefly cover the most important systems of the body.
Assignment 3
- How Essential Oils Work (Part I)
The effects of essential oils on the body from inhalation to massage. Details given of how the oils affect various systems in the body.
Assignment 4
- How Essential Oils Work (Part II) & Methods of Application
Further knowledge of the effects of essential oils plus their various methods of usage.
Assignment 5
- The Production & Chemical Make-up of Essential Oils
Detailed knowledge of various methods of production of pure essential oils together with their chemical make-up.
Assignment 6
- Creative Blending and Beauty Usage
Detailed knowledge of the therapeutic and aesthetic values of blending various oils, fragrance harmony and personal perfumes, together with beauty applications.
Assignment 7
- Stress! Its Causes and Cures
An in-depth profile of stress, its many causes and how Aromatherapy can help to reduce it.
Assignment 8
- Aromatherapy In The Home & Garden
Learners project. Create the scented garden of your choice.
Assignment 9
- Case Histories & How They Help
Ten very different case histories given in detail together with information on how they help the practitioner.
Assignment 10
- Aromatherapy For Those With Special Needs
How Aromatherapy can help everyone from children & adults with special needs, to the family pet.
Also, included are fifty information sheets on individual oils.

Entry Requirements
No experience or previous qualifications are required for enrolment on this course.
Minimum age restriction
You must be aged 16 or older to enrol.
Average completion timeframe
The average time it takes our learners to complete the course is 1 year.
Assessment requirements
After each lesson, there will be a question paper to complete.

Assessment Method
After each lesson there will be a question paper, which needs to be completed and submitted to your personal tutor for marking. This method of continual assessment ensures that your personal tutor can consistently monitor your progress and provide you with assistance throughout the duration of the course.
On successful completion of your course you will receive the learndirect Certificate of Completion of Training in Aromatherapy - Gentle Touch.
Your course certificate will also state the number of CPD points/hours the course is eligible for.
