How You Will Be Assessed
To earn your A-Level Chemistry qualification, you will complete three written papers at the end of your course. Please note that these exams must be sat in person at an approved physical exam centre in the UK:
- Paper 1 (Physical and Inorganic Chemistry): A 2-hour written exam consisting of short and long-answer questions. Worth 105 marks (35% of your A-Level).
- Paper 2 (Physical and Organic Chemistry): A 2-hour written exam consisting of short and long-answer questions. Worth 105 marks (35% of your A-Level).
- Paper 3 (Practical Skills and Data Analysis): A 2-hour written exam testing your understanding of practical techniques, data analysis, and synoptic chemistry, alongside 30 multiple-choice questions. Worth 90 marks (30% of your A-Level).
What about the Practical Endorsement?
A-Level Chemistry contains a "Practical Endorsement" (CPAC) based on 12 Required Practicals. While this is a separate pass/fail endorsement that is highly recommended for learners planning to study science-based degrees at university, it is entirely optional and does not affect your final A-Level letter grade (A-E).
