About your Course
This course is intended to serve as an introduction to aquatic treadmill therapy for individuals already possessing the Level 3 Certificate Hydrotherapy for Small Animals.
You will learn how to safely operate an aquatic treadmill as well as understand which animals are suitable for this form of treatment.
The course also covers how to develop aquatic treadmill therapy sessions for your patients using different water levels and speeds of the treadmill belt. You will study the projected benefits, as well as being aware of any detrimental effects.
This course includes a practical day within our busy rehabilitation centres alongside our experienced qualified hydrotherapists and physiotherapists. This will give you the opportunity to use the aquatic treadmill on a variety of patients. You can choose to attend either our Melksham, Oxfordshire, Chepstow, Newcastle or Aberdeen centres in the UK, or Houston, Texas if you are in the USA.
The centres offer state of the art equipment including gait analysis and underwater treadmills and hydrotherapy pools.
You will be required to get in and out of the aquatic treadmill. Therefore, should you require any support in doing so, ensure this is in place and the centre is aware.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to carry out basic aquatic treadmill therapy for small animals. You will also be eligible to study the advanced aquatic treadmill course, expanding your knowledge and broadening the treatments you can offer.
UCAS Status
Learners looking to go to university or continue their training at a Higher Education (HE) provider after completing one of our Level 3 animal courses will benefit from UCAS Points.
All our Level 3 animal qualifications are allocated a certain number of UCAS Tariff Points, ranging from 8 to 48 points. These are used to meet entry requirements for higher education establishments. Unit 1: Practical Aquatic Treadmill Therapy
Upon completion of this unit you will:
- Be able to operate an aquatic treadmill
- Understand the factors affecting patients in the aquatic treadmill
- Understand patient suitability for the aquatic treadmill
- Be able to create treadmill sessions for patients
Entry Requirements
Learners will need to have completed an industry recognised Level 3 Certificate in Small Animal Hydrotherapy, without Aquatic Units within the completed qualification. The minimum age for access to this qualification is 16 years of age.

You have 24 months to complete your course.
Assessment requirements
You will be assessed via a combination of video and photo submissions, your supervisor will also need to provide witness testimonies.
Placement or Practical required
This course includes 1 day of practical training at the Woozelbears centre located in Witney.
If placement or practical required, when?
Placement dates can be chosen to suit the learner once the threshold has been met.
Additional requirements
Learners can become a member of the Canine Hydrotherapy Association (CHA) or the National Association of Registered Canine Hydrotherapists (NARCH) following completion of this course.
Certification Timeframe
Learners can expect their certification within 6 months of completing the course, following the (EQA) External Quality Assurance of assessment.
Course Fees
