About Your Course

Learning Maths can lead to an array of diverse and exciting careers. From economics and engineering to science and finance, the number of industries you can pursue are endless. With a solid understanding of mathematical processes and methods, many doors will open up to you.

If you are an international or UK-based student looking to gain a widely recognised qualification in Maths, one that will propel you towards higher education learning or into the job market, then enrol on our A/iA Level Maths course.

By studying iA Levels instead of traditional A Levels, you have the benefits of a different exam structure. There are three opportunities for exams, and they are fully flexible, meaning that you can take each unit exam when you feel ready to do so. Also, when it comes to re-sits, you can re-take a single unit as opposed to the full exam.  But if that's not for you, this course will also cover the AQA A Level specification.  You can choose which option you want to take when you book your exams, and you tutor can help you!

This course covers an array of topics, all of which you will need to grasp should you want to progress your academic career. You will develop a range of skills and techniques that will allow you to tackle mathematical processes and mathematical proofs.

Algebra and algorithms are among the many topics that you will cover during your studies, allowing you to develop your existing mathematical skills. By exploring a range of processes, you will be able to apply these to your future studies and work.

While you will have access to the course materials you need, you will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own learning. Through the techniques you study, you will be able to discuss mathematical theories and create your own arguments about various models.

By acquiring your qualification, you will be able to enrol on a higher education course or apply for entry-level roles.

Getting Started

Once you have enrolled on your course, you will be given 24/7 access to all the course materials you need. Everything you need to complete your course will be on our industry-leading learning platform, which you will have access to for the duration of your course.

One of the many benefits of studying with learndirect is that you can study your course from the comfort of your own home. You have the freedom and flexibility of navigating through the course at a pace that suits your lifestyle.

If you work full-time, have children to look after, or have other existing commitments, you can still learn your course and gain the qualification you need to take the next step in your academic journey.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

You will be unable to book your exam until all outstanding course fees are settled in full, this includes any associated charges deemed to be payable as per your initial contract.

All courses funded via our partner Premium Credit Limited, will need to be settled with them directly.

Modules

Your course starts with two units that help you to understand everything you need to know about A Level and iA Level maths, as well as some great tips on how to successfully study online.

Units 3-7: Algebra I

These units introduce the algebra skills you’ll use throughout the course, giving you the tools you need to prove a range of mathematical statements.

Units 8 and 9: Calculus I

Here, you’ll start learning calculus – a mathematical tool which will allow you to investigate rates of change and optimisation.

Units 10-1: Algebra II

In these units, you’ll build on your algebra skills and learn how to work with special functions. In particular, you’ll see how exponential and logarithmic functions have a wide range of real-world applications.

Units 13-15: Geometry I

So far, you’ve developed your algebraic skills and learnt how to work with different expressions and equations. In these units, you’ll start applying these skills to geometric problems.

Units 16-19: Calculus II:

These units will combine your previous studies in calculus with some of the new ideas that you’ve learnt regarding special functions.

Unit 20: Geometry II:

You’ll combine what you know about the trigonometric functions with your algebraic techniques and solve problems or prove statements involving trigonometry.

Units 21 and 22: Calculus III:

These two units complete your studies of pure mathematics with some advanced calculus techniques. This concludes your pure maths units.

Units 23 and 24: Interpreting Data:

These units introduce you to the statistics side of your course. You’ll learn how statistical investigations are completed and how their results are presented to the public.

Units 25 and 26: Probability I:

Here, we’ll introduce the idea of probability and how real-world data can be described using statistical distributions. You’ll also learn the concept of hypothesis testing.

Units 27-29: Probability II:

These units allow you to develop your statistical knowledge to work in a wider variety of situations. They complete the statistics part of your course.

Units 30-32: Mechanics I:

Now you’re ready to move on to your mechanics learning. In these units, you’ll be introduced to the study of kinematics – how objects behave when they are moving.

Units 33-35: Mechanics II:

Here, you’ll round off your mechanics learning by considering some more complicated situations. These include problems where two objects are connected or problems where friction and other forces act on an object.

Your course is completed with a full set of mocks for either A Level or iA Level.

Frequently Asked Questions

A-Level Maths is a demanding subject, but it's also rewarding and achievable with dedication, perseverance, and the right approach. The difficulty level increases gradually. Your course starts by consolidating and expanding your knowledge from GCSE Maths, then it introduces more advanced concepts and problem-solving techniques. This gradual progression allows you to build your understanding and confidence step by step. As you master the more complex concepts and solve intricate problems, you'll develop a sense of accomplishment and a deeper appreciation for the elegance and power of mathematics.
A-Level Maths is a versatile qualification that opens doors to a wide range of degree courses and careers. It is a prerequisite for many STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) degrees, as well as some non-STEM degrees that require strong quantitative skills. Some examples of degrees that require A-Level Maths include engineering, science, finance and economics, statistics and data science, architecture, and surveying. In addition to these specific degrees, A-Level Maths can also be a useful qualification for many other careers, including investment banking, consulting, teaching, it, research and development.
While you have two years to complete your A-Level Maths course, the removal of classes and a set timetable makes it possible to blitz your course and graduate sooner. If you have the time to commit to learning, you could complete your A-Level Maths course in a year.
No, you do not need Maths A-Level for medicine. However, it is a recommended subject for many medical schools in the UK. Mathematics is useful for medicine because it helps develop the problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills that are essential for doctors. Many universities will consider applications from students who do not have Maths A-Level, but you will need to have strong grades in your other science subjects, such as biology and chemistry. If you are considering a career in medicine, it is advisable to check the entry requirements for the medical schools you are interested in. Some medical schools may specify that they require Maths A-Level or a strong grade in GCSE Maths, but others will be more flexible.
Yes! Your A-Level Maths exams are included in this course option. After passing each end-of-unit assignment and your mock exams successfully, you will be ready to take your exam. You can also choose between A-Level or iA-Level when you book your exams.
