A-Level English Literature encourages students to explore the deeper meanings behind the written form, immersing you in an exciting world of drama, poetry, and prose. The course challenges you to examine texts within a shared context, understanding that no text exists in isolation but is, instead, a product of the time in which it was produced.

This course will equip you with advanced communication, analytical, and research skills that are highly valued in both university and professional life. By studying literary genres and contexts, you gain crucial UCAS points to unlock new career opportunities and access to degree level study in subjects like English, History, or Law.

Exams

The qualification is awarded by AQA, one of the UK’s most respected exam boards, known for its consistent assessment and strong support for learners.

Assessment consists of two written papers covering literary genres and texts, and a mandatory Non Exam Assessment (NEA) component. The NEA covers theory and independence, which must be completed to gain your A-Level. The exams encourage you to draw together your knowledge, skills, and understanding from across the full course of study.

Exam bookings will be made each January for the following May/June by our higher education team. Your exams are included with this course bundle, and you will sit them at one of our nationwide exam centres.
