What’s it like being an event manager?
As an event manager, you’ll have many responsibilities that need tending to prior, during and post-event.
Firstly, the event planner will liaise with the client and finding out exactly what their requirements are. Sometimes the role of an event manager and planner intertwine, so you might have to do this part too.
After the initial meeting, they’ll have to research venues, suppliers, contractors and negotiate prices and hire. Making sure everything is possible within the budget set by the client.
They’ll then provide a detailed proposal for the event that fits the brief. This will include timelines, venue options, suppliers, legal obligations, staffing and overall cost.
If the client gives them the green-light then the event manager is good to start on preparations for the event. You’ll work alongside sales and marketing to promote the event, organise guest speakers, coordinate suppliers and delegate responsibility. You will need to be meticulous in your efforts to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Fully briefing your team of staff so they understand exactly what is required of them. Whilst also organising facilities for car parking, traffic control, security, first aid, hospitality and the media. As well as making sure you’re complying with any legalities you need to adhere to. Such as insurance and health and safety measures.
Once the event is underway you’ll oversee everything. Making sure it goes to plan and be on hand should any issues arise. After the event, you’ll need to dismantle and remove any set-up and staging equipment and clear the venue efficiently.
Finally, you’ll produce a post-event evaluation to inform future events whilst researching opportunities for new clients.

Human Relations

Marketing
