Go Train currently works with learndirect across several contracts in the South East including PFU and Traineeships. When delivering our National Careers Service sessions in centres it was apparent that a high number of our learners were hoping to gain employment within the construction industry. However the large majority of these learners did not have their CSCS card and also felt that they had additional barriers to work and therefore felt it would be a great opportunity for Go Train to deliver this through the PFU contract.
Go Train’s Employer Engagement team made contact with local employers (including Randstad, Hays and swift roofing) in the building and construction sectors and explained how Go Train would be able to help them meet their immediate recruitment needs while also giving something back to their community by helping our unemployed or at risk of redundancy candidates back into work.
The launch of the CSCS in centres has been received well by everyone. The JCP and Avanta have made many referrals to CSCS so far and have given some positive feedback on the workshops.
Go Train have now run 2 cohorts of CSCS in our Maidstone centre and so far with a course pass rate of 90% and a Job outcome rate of 67%.
Learners have been delighted with the CSCS Programme and feedback has been excellent. Some examples include:
‘I have learnt many new skills this week which I now put to use when I gain work on a site, I have really enjoyed my week.’
‘My confidence has grown a lot this week, I am looking forward to taking all of my new skills and attributes into the workplace with me. My overall experience with go train has been excellent and I would recommend to anyone.’
