Our Suppliers – more about Awaaz

Awaaz have worked in the North West for the past 20 years delivering adult education in a deprived, multi-cultural area. They currently operate out of their centre in Cheetham Hill, Manchester and offer a wide range of contracts and initiatives in addition to their Adult Skills contract with learndirect.

They are focused on getting learners from the local community into employment and their progression opportunities include pre-employment training, SIA Training courses, Health and Safety courses, Food Hygiene, Warehousing, Driving Test theory, CSCS Cards and Cleaning qualifications. Their learndirect offer consists of Entry level, level 1 and level 2 Maths and English and IT and they have also recently started to deliver ESOL.

In order to help fulfil their duties as a community organisation they also operate Awaaz Community Radio station which provides topical discussion on factors affecting members of their local community. They have developed links with local food banks and have facilitated advice sessions conducted by Cheetham Advice Service. These sessions provide learners with an opportunity to gain support on a range of issues such as debt and budgeting. In addition, they have also developed excellent links with Greater Manchester police force and have become a Hate Crime Reporting Centre. They work closely with the police to identify vulnerable individuals and groups and, with the support of the police, provide support and interventions to address individual and local issues and concerns.

In recognition of their outstanding efforts and work with the police, Awaaz have recently been nominated for an award by Greater Manchester Police and we would like to pass on our recognition and congratulations.

Their community work and proactive approaches are providing a great basis for gathering evidence against the new Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare area of the Common Inspection framework as well as demonstrating their commitment to the promotion of British Values and the embedding of their PREVENT agenda responsibilities..
