Employability

Combining education with practical life skills

We Call It Employability!

Unfortunately, unemployment is something we all may face at some point in our lives. When it comes to employability there are a few key things you can do to stay ahead of those around you.

52% of recruiters decide not to hire at all if the candidate is not right.

Where Do You Fit In?

If you have struggled with employment in the past, you will know that preparing for the job interviews is key. Taking time to prepare is just as important, if not more so than the actual interview itself.

But how do you become appealing to that 52%?

  • Resilience - perseverance will, in the long run, pay off more than sheer talent
  • The willingness to learn - employers are people too, they simply want to see in you the same thirst for knowledge that pushed them further
  • Being creative - “thinking out of the box” may well be overused, but there is a reason for it. Do you know what that is?

There is so much more to it. So, ask yourself: what is important to you?

Here’s just a quick snippet of how we can support you on your journey into employment:

Application Writing

Writing applications can stressful, but it doesn’t have to be.

Everyday employers receive countless job application forms to sift through. You will need to show you are perfect for the role by demonstrating personality, professionalism and confidence. It’s always important to focus on the person specification (NOT the job description!) of the vacancy. Make sure you match every skill
they ask for with an example, showing you have the relevant experience to turn you into the perfect candidate.

Communication Skills

Basic communication skills are something everyone should have but unfortunately not everyone does. Take full advantage of this tool, not only to build your own personal brand, but also to research the positions and companies that interest you. In the 21st century, social media is a great way to put yourself on the recruiters’ radar. Just beware of its transparency, as employers will also conduct their due diligence on potential candidates.

Network

Networking involves speaking and sharing information with professional contacts. You can network in a formal or informal environment, but it will always be with likeminded individuals, interested in expanding knowledge and professional contacts. Many companies hold networking events for employees in the same industry to attend and get to know each other.

Job Boards

A job board is an employment website that deals specifically with employment or careers. Many employment websites act as aggregators, posting jobs from a range of employers and allowing candidates to apply for the positions advertised, directly via the platform. Make the best of your time by only applying to the jobs you are genuinely interested in, rather than sending off hundreds of generic applications. You will be far more likely to get interview that way.
