About your Diploma

Through a wildlife rehabilitation studies diploma, you learn how to remove animals from life threatening situations, assess their health and tend to injuries and where possible treat for infections and diseases. All with the goal of reintroducing the animal back into the wild. Animals in the wild face a number of threats including predators, adverse weather or as a result of human encroachment on their natural habitat.

While first aid skills may be similar for both animals and humans, the other aspects of wild animal rescue require specific training. You’ll know how to minimise their stress during necessary human contact, preserve and maintain their life until professional treatment is available. You will also learn about the legalities surrounding the removal and reintroduction of indigenous and non-indigenous species back into the wild.

Understanding the correct ways to approach wild animals, handle and care for them, while imposing minimal trauma, opens you up to a myriad of career opportunities working with animals. You can take what you’ve learned into related careers such as an animal care or rescue centre worker, wildlife rehabilitator or countryside ranger.
