About your Diploma

The marine biology diploma allows you to explore the many aspects of oceanography, marine biology and the life that exists underwater. Giving you the fundamental knowledge to seek employment or build on with further study.

You’ll learn how all life began in the sea, the ways it has changed over billions of years and the differences between each underwater habitat. Understanding the ways aquatic animals have evolved to live in evolving and harsh environments like the deep, darkness of the ocean floor.

By studying this course, you will develop your understanding of an environment that covers 70% of the world's surface. Positioning you for careers in marine biology and ecology that could have you travel across the globe to study these water environments up close.

Your knowledge of the detrimental impact of human activity and changing climates could lead you into conservation, environmental management and policy related roles. Otherwise, you could spend your time working in labs performing tests on samples and analysing new species, or in the field carrying out research and collating findings.

  • Understand how these animals can live in sub-zero temperatures
  • Understand marine animals of the polar regions like polar bears in the Arctic and penguins in the Antarctic

Unit 5: Shores and Estuaries

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand shores and estuaries
  • Understand the smaller number of species that appear in this group

Unit 6: The Deep Sea

On completion of this unit you will:
