Overview

GCSE English language can help you to progress onto many further and higher education courses.

Our GCSE English course was written by qualified subject specialists who have years of experience in Further Education. You’ll start with a Diagnostic Assessment, which shows you where you already have good skills and which areas you need to focus on.  Our courses have been created to cater to all ways of learning. Whether you are a visual, auditory or kinaesthetic learner, you will be able to find content that helps you to learn in the way that you find most comfortable.

Our supported package is ideal for you if you would like support from our qualified tutors. Support includes two, one-hour individual tutorials delivered over the internet, and a marked mock exam with feedback on areas you need to revise. In addition, you’ll receive access to all of the online tutorials and practice activities that you need, and our system will give you guidance every step of the way. At the end of each lesson is a short quiz which will help you to confirm learning before you move onto the next lesson.

Modules

GCSE English language covers the Pearson GCSE (9-1) English Language specification and includes:

  • Reading – This unit looks at understanding, evaluating and comparing different types of texts, including extracts from fictional and non-fictional novels by known authors. You’ll also learn about structures and features of texts that will help with your own writing. All of the reading skills that you will look at will be tested in quizzes at the end of each section, ensuring that you are ready to sit your final exam.
  • Writing – This unit looks at the best way to write different pieces of text. It covers grammar, punctuation and spelling, as well as vocabulary choices to enhance your writing and make it interesting for the reader. This includes many different types of texts, from letters and newspaper articles to narratives and descriptions. Again, you will complete quizzes at the end of each lesson, ensuring that you are ready to sit your final exam.

Requirements

Great news! There are no entry requirements for the course. All you need is access to a computer or tablet and an internet connection.

Assessment

You’ll be assessed throughout your learning by our online quizzes.

We will provide you with a guide on how to find an exam place near to you.

At the end of this course, if you decide to take an exam, after passing you’ll have gained a GCSE in English Language, which can enable you to go on to further and higher education programmes and can also give you access to some universities.
