learndirect expands offering to help those wanting to go it alone

learndirect has further increased its remit to offer qualifications in enterprise to those in Staffordshire and Warwickshire who want to set up their own business.

Following a surge in the number of people choosing to become self-employed learndirect’s team of Enterprise Coaches has expanded to include additional members who have completed the Certificate in Enterprise Coaching Level 3.

This gives learndirect’s Coaches further skills to work with a wider group of employability customers through a Level 2 qualification in Enterprise and Business Start-up, coaching the customers towards self-employment and business sustainability.

Ian Carlier, Enterprise Director at learndirect, said: “Our enterprise service is going from strength to strength.  We now have over 10% of our employability customers accessing our enterprise and self-employment services so we are currently training another group of coaches to deliver this service and the qualification.  We are also actively building up our business mentors and supply chain partners as we see real opportunities for further growth in this area of our business.”

46 year old Work Programme customer Adrian Williams, from Tamworth, has just completed the course which he hopes will now provide the stepping stone he needed to set up his own wood working business.

“I’ve always been interested in becoming self employed as a wooden toy maker,” he said, “but I didn’t know how to write a business plan let alone market my idea and my confidence was really low.  Working with the Enterprise Coach really helped me to believe in myself and completing the qualification was something I never dreamed I could do.  I’m one step nearer to being my own boss.”
