Commenting on today’s autumn statement, Suzana Lopes, Senior Vice President – Sales at learndirect said: “We’re pleased to see in the autumn statement a commitment to ensuring all young people have the skills they need It’s particularly encouraging to see an extra £40million to increase the number of people starting higher apprenticeships by 20,000 over the next two academic years. Apprenticeships, especially at this level, are crucial for providing staff with the workplace skills businesses need to thrive and compete in the global economy. We also welcome the investment in Jobcentre Plus support to help 16 and 17 year olds find Apprenticeships and Traineeships.
“The pilot of a new scheme of support for young claimants of jobseekers allowance is another positive step for improving the maths and English skills of young people who don’t have level 2 qualifications in these subjects. We know how important these skills are for individuals to carry out tasks effectively in the workplace and contribute towards a productive business.”
