learndirect is delighted to support the National Numeracy Challenge in helping more adults improve their maths knowledge.
The project aims to reach a million adults over five years by asking employers across the UK to help improve numeracy skills in the workplace.
It was launched October 2012 by National Numeracy, the charity set up in March 2012 to combat the UK’s low levels of numeracy and the negative attitudes associated with the subject.
As part of the National Numeracy Challenge, employers will be asked to make a commitment to raise the skills of all their employees to at least Level 1, or even Level 2 where appropriate.
They will be offered a low cost diagnostic tool to assess the initials skills and measure the progress of everyone taking part. They will also have access to a suite of online resources and advice on personalised learning in the workplace, at college or in the community.
he scheme is due to go live next spring and after the initial phase there are plans to expand into areas beyond the workplace, reaching those not in education or employment.
