learndirect lands new deal with Apprentice1st

We’ve joined forces with Apprentice1st to provide their apprentices with the functional maths and English skills they need to succeed at work.

The deal will see us deliver online functional skills qualifications in maths and English to around 150 apprentices across the hospitality sector in the first year, rising to more than 1000 the following year.

Apprentice 1st is a joint venture between People 1st and Exemplas. It supports small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as large organisations in Apprenticeship delivery. Apprentices will be able to access the courses seamlessly through Apprentice1st’s existing online learning portal. They will also benefit from dedicated tutor support via phone and the web through our customer service centre in Leicester.

Our tailored approach will allow Apprentice1st to deliver functional skills in a unique way – offering both maths and English at the same time as well as allowing a test environment within the workplace.

Andrea Dodd, Operations Director at Apprentice1st said: “What really appealed to us about learndirect was they’re a large company and a well recognised brand. We’ve got rapid growth plans for the next year and needed a company which could scale up the delivery with us. They took all the stress out of the whole process and we were able to get everything up and running really quickly.

“Being able to integrate the online functional skills offer from learndirect with our own online portal is great. It’s also really beneficial to have the extra tutor support in Leicester which provides specialist knowledge our assessors don’t necessarily have. We’ve found learndirect really flexible and have been able to tailor the delivery to exactly how we want it to be.”

Suzana Lopes, Senior Vice President of Sales at learndirect said: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Apprentice1st to provide their apprentices with the maths and English skills they need to supplement their practical workplace learning.  Through the use of technology we’re able to deliver this in a flexible way which suits the needs of Apprentice1st as well as allowing apprentices to fit their learning around their working day.”
