Scottish Modern Apprenticeship in Providing Financial Services Banking

A qualification in retail banking is perfect if you're working in a bank or building society branch, or financial products call centre. A Modern Apprenticeship could see you developing skills in creating and maintaining customer accounts, dealing with finance and credit arrangements, resolving problems and selling financial products.

    • You'll develop:

      • your customer service skills
      • productive working relationships with your customers and colleagues
      • your communication skills
      • your knowledge and understanding of the financial service sector from a legal and regulatory perspective.
    • Training for the Level 2 Modern Apprenticeship is based around a combination of mandatory and optional modules. You’ll need to complete seven units in total: three mandatory units, two from group A and two from group A or B.

      Mandatory:

      • Develop yourself to improve and maintain workplace competence in a financial services environment
      • Plan and organise your work in a financial services environment
      • Ensure you comply with regulations in the financial services environment

      Optional A: includes units in authorising financial transactions using telecommunications and selling products or services over the telephone.

      Optional B: includes units in delivering reliable customer service.

    • Modern Apprenticeships are work-based qualifications lasting between 9 and 18 months. A Modern Apprenticeship includes:

      • vocational qualification – the practical part which proves understanding of your job role and how to do it effectively. This will be a Scottish Vocational Qualification.
      • core skills – everyday abilities that everyone needs in their work, including communications, ICT, numeracy, working together and problem solving. This will be fitted around what you need for your job.

      To be eligible for a funded Apprenticeship in Scotland, you cannot currently be in full time education.

    • You'll take on more responsibility within your team and with customers.

    • Training for the Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship is based around a combination of mandatory and optional modules. You’ll need to complete seven units in total: three mandatory units, two from group A and two from group A or B.

      Mandatory:

      • Plan and organise your work in a financial services environment
      • Ensure you comply with regulations in the financial services environment

      Optional A: includes units in establishing, monitoring and maintaining bank or building society accounts and supervising the administration of retail financial products and services.

      Optional B: organising the delivery of reliable customer service and contributing to the development of new products and services.
