The UK’s retail workforce is young and the sector is a vibrant place to work, offering many opportunities for apprentices to progress early on in their careers. You could become a senior sales assistant, craft expert or style advisor. During your Apprenticeship you’ll develop skills that are valuable to employers across the sector.
Your daily activities could include:
- dealing with customer queries
- advising and supporting customers in the use of web-based facilities
- running the counter
Our Retail Sales Professional Advanced Apprenticeship usually lasts 12-18 months. It’s made up of theory (knowledge) and practical skills to demonstrate your understanding and competence in the workplace.
You’ll work at least 30 hours a week. The hours and days you work could depend on your employer. Shift work including evenings, weekends and public holidays is common in this industry.
During an Apprenticeship you’ll be paid at least the current minimum wage rate for apprentices, but it could be more than that. After your Apprenticeship, if you’re employed as a senior sales assistant, your salary could be from £15,000 to £20,000 a year.
