Thousands of individuals and businesses develop their skills every week by taking learndirect courses. To recognise their achievements, learndirect is running the fourth annual learndirect Achievement Awards across England and Wales which recognise the achievements of individuals and businesses training with learndirect, and the people and centres supporting them.
The awards are split into 9 categories:
- Individual learner categories celebrating individuals who have turned their lives around, overcome major learning obstacles and improved their job prospects as a result of learndirect learning
- Two business categories that recognise businesses and employees who have developed their organisations as a result of learndirect learning
- Learner support categories recognise the achievements of the learndirect staff and centres who provide outstanding support for their learners
The awards are open for nominations from now until the end of March 2010. The regional winners will then be announced at regional ceremonies across the country. National Winners will be recognised at a reception in London in October 2010.

Learning changes lives, builds business performance and impacts on society and the UK economy as a whole. Skills are fundamental to achieving our ambitions for ourselves, our families and our communities. They help businesses thrive and enable people to realise their employment potential.
Learning with learndirect has been life-changing for Lisa Barnett who won the 2009 National Progression Award. When she took her first learndirect course she was unemployed and nervous about taking the first step back into learning. She is now studying for a degree in youth justice at university. TV and radio presenter Eamonn Holmes and his wife Ruth Langsford, who hosted the National Awards last year said:
"We are both delighted to support the learndirect Achievement Awards which recognise people and businesses who rise to the challenge of developing new skills. We have worked with learndirect in the past to highlight the benefits of learning, so have seen first-hand the positive impact that learning can have on adults around the country: it really can be life-changing. So please, log on to the website at www.learndirect.co.uk/awards and make a nomination.”
