Ensure your employees can deliver care to the required national standards. Our Health and Social Care NVQs improve skills to create a better trained and more confident workforce.
The two elements to the qualifications are:
- Online or offline courses – that provide underpinning knowledge
- Work-based competence assessment leading to either Level 2 or Level 3 NVQ qualifications
For further information take a look at our new interactive guide and watch an NVQ assessor explain the benefits NVQs offer your organisation.
What next?
You’re employees can use the NVQ work profile tool to identify
- which level NVQ is right for them
- which units provide the best match to their job
It will take them through a series of questions based on their role, and will use the answers they give to recommend the most relevant units for them, so you can be confident they are focussing on areas that will have maximum impact on your business.
For more information give us a call on 0800 101 901 or fill in the contact us form and we'll get our dedicated business team to give you the training information you need. The helpline is open from 7am to 11pm, everyday.
Who is the NVQ for?
The Level 2 qualification is designed for care workers who support and assist individuals. It is particularly relevant for home care assistants, community support assistants and residential or day care assistants. Level 2 candidates will usually work under supervision.
Level 3 candidates may have some supervisory or developmental responsibility for other care workers. They may be involved in specialist tasks with some degree of responsibility or independence. Level 3 is particularly relevant to senior care workers, health care workers, home care organisers and community support workers.
What will my staff learn?
Through the Health and Social Care NVQ, your staff will cover topics including:
- Understanding the organisation and role of the care worker
- Safety at work
- Effective communication
- Recognising and responding to abuse and neglect
- Understanding social issues in care, for example equality, discrimination and stereotypes
- Personal development
- Other areas covered will depend on the optional modules selected
How is the NVQ structured?
For the Level 2 qualification, a planner tool helps to develop a tailored programme to meet their specific needs by identifying the most relevant units in addition to the mandatory core.
At Level 3, candidates focus on effective communication with patients and
colleagues, non-verbal signals, assistive technologies and recording and
managing information.
Four mandatory units and nine optional units make up the course.
The mandatory units are:
- Promote effective communication for and about individuals
- Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the working environment
- Reflect on and develop your practice
- Promote choice, well-being and the protection of all individuals
How is the Health and Social Care NVQ delivered?
We deliver this ITQ through one of our local learndirect Business centres.
Each employee has an initial assessment to identify any gaps in their knowledge, and which units are appropriate for them. Work-based learning and previous experience can be taken into account.
The qualification is awarded when evidence of competence in the workplace has been successfully collected and assessed.
Government funding is often available to support the cost of NVQs delivered in this way. If your organisation already has qualified assessors, you can purchase just the underpinning knowledge for this NVQ, which is hosted on our e-learning system.
Is there funding available for this NVQ?
