As part of a week-long celebration of Modern Apprenticeships across learndirect, Jim Murphy, Operations Director for Scotland, is spending the day as an apprentice at HSS Hire.
Timed to coincide with Scottish Apprenticeship Week, Jim will be working behind the counter at the HSS Hire store in Newbridge. His duties will include dealing with customers face-to-face and over the phone, assisting with enquires and orders, checking e-mails and other administrative duties.
Jim says: “I am really keen to spend time with one of our key customers in Scotland, standing in the shoes of an apprentice. Each day we work with 100s of apprentices across Scotland and only by doing this can I really appreciate the role they play and the contribution they make.
“As a leading provider of Apprenticeships across Scotland and the rest of the UK, we recognise the importance of investing in new talent. We support our employer partners in identifying and supporting their apprentices and managers. I’m confident the day will give me useful insight which will help us further develop our programmes, including our internal scheme.”
Sandra Sneddon, area manager for HSS Hire, Scotland East says: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Jim as one of our apprentices. His day will start at 0830 with a briefing on health and safety and tasks for the day. He will support the rest of the team in the smooth running of the store.
“HSS is committed to supporting our young people at the beginning of their working life and our aim is to ensure they have an enjoyable experience and gain the confidence and ability to continue on their chosen career path and who knows we may find our next CEO among them.”
