With Wimbledon seeing its first British men’s singles’ champion in 77 years at the weekend, the partnership will help the LTA to grow the game of tennis by enhancing the delivery of their coaching apprenticeship programme as well as improving the knowledge and skills of qualified coaches.
We will now deliver functional skills qualifications to the LTA’s coaching apprentices in levels 1 and 2 in maths and English. The flexible online delivery means the apprentices can complete the qualifications at a time to suit them whilst receiving dedicated tutor support by phone and web from learndirect’s support centre in Leicester.
From August, the LTA will also offer a range of online business courses to their qualified coaching staff through learndirect. These include courses in customer service, marketing and managing your team. After launching it to their coaches they hope to open it up to the wider workforce.
Jane Bowen, Coach Education Manager at LTA said: “Coaching apprenticeships are a key programme for the LTA for introducing new coaches into the workforce and growing the game of tennis. Working with learndirect will help enhance this and we’re already seeing past apprentices now running their own programmes and businesses in clubs as a result.
“The supported learning approach was the most appealing part of the learndirect offer for functional skills. They are really easy to work with and have delivered a high standard of training.
“We opted to go with learndirect based on the range of courses available and the ability to link it into our existing course search function. They have provided practical, affordable solutions for online learning.
“The LTA saw the demand for more business related courses within the workforce and wanted to utilise the business content of an established provider to complement their existing range of tennis specific courses.”
